The Chinese would have been up in  arms....typical British pragmatism, which probably has more to do with ongoing trade with the fast growing Brazilian economy which will host the FIFA 2014 World Soccer Cup and the Olympics in 2016.....the tolerant and canny British outfox and confound their trading rivals once again.....!
